Amen Daniel! I am no fan of Bibi, but agree with his insistence on controlling the corridor and the borders as part of any deal, be it a pause or a permanent end to the war. It will take a few generations to de-radicalize the Palestinians via the mosques and schools, as done in Saudi Arabia. But until then, Israel must have control over all its borders and prevent any re-arming of those intent on butchering and murdering the innocent, or using them as shields.

I agree Brad. Unusually, Netanyahu and I are aligned on this one.

No wonder Egypt and Hamas vehemently oppose Philadelphia corridor control in Israeli hands 🤔🤔

It's not just Gaza that they continue to claim is occupied. I believe many protestors, and even Nicaragua in its legal brief submitted to the ICJ, referred to the kibbutzim and location of the party where the Oct. 7th attack took place as 'occupied Palestinian territory' as well.

Interesting Shlomo. I'd be interested in reading that legal brief.

https://icj-cij.org/sites/default/files/case-related/193/193-20240301-app-01-00-en.pdf. Go to paragraph 6. This is the official legal filing of Nicaragua at the International Court of Justice. If you're interested here's a short piece about it I also posted on JNS: https://www.jns.org/nicaragua-sues-germany-over-support-for-israel/

It is important to have control of Philidelphi corridor. For it to exist and think Egypt didn't know, proves why it must be maintained. Otherwise more munitions get in, peace won't occur

Israel, like any nation, or individual, must be allowed to protect itself.

This piece is so incredibly smart. Sharon

Made a terrible miscalculation believing Israel could buy goodwill by doing anything other than disappearing.

Thanks Dena for your kind words.

Pretty obvious.

The language is Arabic. The religion is Arabic. They came from the Arabian peninsula. They should return. Leave Israel alone. Allow Israel to do what it does best, creating marvelous things for the world.

My understanding is the only 'occupiers' on lands Israel conquered in the '67 war are Arabs.

I think this underestimates Ariel Sharon's motivations for the 2005 withdrawal from Gaza: one key benefit was the split in the Palestinian leadership between Hamas and Fatah. With roughly half of Palestinians under a rival group, serious negotiation for the two-state solution ended.

It's possible that had Sharon not done this, an equivalent of Gaza would already be present on the West Bank: autonomous, with open access to weapons from abroad and little internal interference from Israel.

That said, the idea that Israel could reenter Gaza if a serious threat emerged there, as mentioned in 2005 and mentioned today, was flawed. Palestinians can make every effort to attack Israel and no one cares but Israel cannot respond without being condemned.

The hostages and their families are living in an anguish the rest of us cannot comprehend. But we must all comprehend that long-term security requires cutting off Palestinians in Gaza from arms supplies because, in addition to 99 hostages held in Gaza, there are also 10M citizens in Israel who must also be kept safe.
