A necessary ultimatum to the leaders of the Palestinian people, Daniel! The Gaza War is winding down and nothing significant has changed at all. The Palestinian people’s leaders never seem to learn their lesson. If they want peace and a state for their people, they need to accept and recognize Israel and choose to live in peace with their neighbors. If they can’t do that, here will be the consequences of that, their people will to live under restrictive Israeli security measures forever, Likud and their far-right allies will remain in power in Israel for the foreseeable future, the conflict will continue until the end of time, and hundreds of thousands more Israelis and Palestinians will die.
Yasser Arafat was a mass-murdering terrorist and a dictator. But the worst thing he did was turn his back on the Oslo Accords and reject the deal Bill Clinton and Ehud Barak offered him at Camp David in 2000. I don’t think his heart was ever fully in the peace process to begin with. He really engaged in it out of pragmatism to begin with. You see, Arafat needed to get on the West and the Arab world’s good side in order to get U.S. and Western aid and to redeem himself after alienating the other Arab countries due to his support for Saddam Hussein and Ba’athist Iraq during the Gulf War. But even as he shook hands with Yitzhak Rabin in public, he was encouraging intifada revolution in private. This wasn’t playing to the gallery but rather his real feelings. He was a snake who stole from his own people, jailed, tortured and murdered dissenters, ordered the murder of the Israeli team at the 1972 Munich Olympics, blew up children, killed babies, made nice with dictators and other terrorist groups like the IRA, and murdered Jewish families in their homes as they slept.
Fast forwarding to today, the Palestinians still don’t have good, honest leaders interested in peace. What you have instead is the corrupt kleptocracy that is Fatah and Hamas, Islamist theocrats who behead babies, burn down Kibbutzims, rape young women, kidnap the most vulnerable members of society, enslave black Africans, execute LGBTQ+ people, treat women as chattel, have their own version of Apartheid South Africa, steal billions in humanitarian aid, use child labor, indoctrinate children, and do pogroms against Jews. That’s just to name a FEW of their long list of evil deeds! These people are NOT ever going to be open to peace. Until we see the birth of a secular, liberal and democratic government in the Palestinian Territories peace there will not be.
The Palestinian leadership must make their decision now to coexist with Israel as Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia have. The new state of Palestine then must join the Abraham Accords. If they can’t change, the results will be devastating. At the end of the day, who is responsible for the miserable lot of the Palestinian people? Not Israel. Their own leaders and their Arab brothers. Their leaders are the one’s who turned down every peace deal. Most crucially in 1947! They told their people they could obtain liberation not through peace and love but through hate, armed resistance, stabbing, suicide bombings, boycotts, and divestment. It was their Arab brothers who made the Nakba happen in the first place by invading Israel. Then after the war was over they washed their hands of them and abandoned them. They also have an actual Apartheid against them. Until the Palestinian people come to see this truth, a peace accords and a two-state solution can’t be a reality. Israel was never the problem, their leaders and fellow Arabs always were. Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon pushed you out of your homes not the Jews!

Beautifully written, poetic, right on. But Arabs were fighting each other long before Arafat came along. Superiority is in their foundational ethos. Dying with honour is better than living in disgrace.
I can only hope that modernity will catch up to the new world.
There are no Arab countries allowing people identifying themselves as Palestinians entry. Before the first Gulf War there were over 100,000 Palestinians living and working in Kuwait. Once Saddam captured Kuwait they switched sides.
Outstanding
Thanks.

As I said in the piece John, the Jordanians and Lebanese have had enough as much as the Israelis...
Arafat, plo, Fatah, black September, pflp, Hamas, pij, they are all the same. They always were
Daniel, who is the "new headmaster in town?"
Haha! It's up for interpretation.
The Sinn Fein love them. Let Ireland have them.
